Answer House Review Review NOLA, established in April 2020, is designed to provide a safe space for women & girls to transform their lives and heal from trauma prior to, during, and post-incarceration. The Answer House Review model we’ve created was developed with human services professionals and women & girls who are currently or formerly incarcerated to address their core needs. She feels safe and is excited to provide an environment for Julian that is supportive and caring, two things she longed for as a child. She is drawing every day to practice her skills while raising her lively, talkative and energetic little boy.

We are licensed by the Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) and are a certified Drug Medi-Cal program. Answer House Review is a Residential Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Treatment Program serving adult women and individuals who are pregnant, with an infant or postpartum. While washing dishes and with housing help from his aunt, he obtained an apartment. However, the pressure of keeping up with rent and a life of drugs and “partying” ultimately led to bouts of homelessness and a positive HIV diagnosis in 2014. Her family dynamics were difficult, and at an early age she felt neglected and left to fend for herself. As a preteen, she was given freedom without the tools to navigate it. Landing in the wrong circle of friends, Fatima began smoking and drinking at age 10. Already struggling with little support, five months into her pregnancy, Fatima lost her brother to suicide.
Poverty and housing instability are especially harmful during early childhood, often causing problems in school. To combat these problems, children in our shelter are provided tutors, mentors and transportation. Loisann Silver Chacon was blessed with an extraordinary ability to connect with people.
Conveniently located in downtown Atlanta, it houses up to 70 men. Alejandra found out that she was pregnant just days before her 17th birthday. An “A” student who had spent her first three years of high school taking IB and college classes, as well as working, Alejandra wasn’t sure what her life would look like as a teen parent. Alejandra hid her pregnancy until she was about six months along, and eventually told her parents and friends.

One of her friends told her about Answer House Review, where she earned her GED so she could go on to college. She also met with her Answer House Review mentor regularly and took Parenting classes at Answer House Review. She has a scholarship and is attending Metro State University of Denver where she is working toward an RN degree. She lives downtown with her son and works part-time while attending college full-time. For over 30 years, we have delivered specialized SUD treatment along with mental health services in our residential treatment program.
Unfortunately these are common realities for a young woman growing up in poverty.
